ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Sandy Moser has had the desire and the need to paint and sketch for most of her life. She began painting in oils in 1970 and is basically a self-taught artist. As a teenager, she was able to take painting classes in the Adult Education Program, and now continues to attend many workshops from various art professionals. She has attended a week-long workshop in oils from Lloyd Pretty in Newfoundland, and has taken watercolor courses from Zoltan Szabo and Cheng Kee Chee. She has also finished a wildlife art correspondence course from North Light Art School. Sandy also paints with acrylics, gouache, egg tempera, pastels, dye on silk, scratchboard, as well as sketching in graphite and ink. She was also a teacher in the public school system for 20 years, while pursuing her art education. Her present focus is wildlife art and she has been studying with wildlife artist Ron Decker for two years.

Sandy's first solo exhibit was featured in the Learning Resource Center Gallery (LRCG), at the Nova Scotia Teachers College, Truro, in January 1995. Her second solo exhibit was also held at the LRCG in 1998. In November of 1995, Sandy was featured on the television program "Tales of the Eastern Shore", which appeared on a local Dartmouth cable station.

In 1996, The Sheet Harbour Board of Trade presented one her paintings to Lieutenant Governor Kinley, which hangs at Province House in Halifax. Also, one of her paintings was presented to Lieutenant Governor May Anne Francis in 2007 by the Sheet Harbour Chamber of Commerce. Her latest accolade was to win first prize in the “Art in Bloom” exhibition in Truro, N.S., in 2001, which was featured in the Truro Daily News and the Eastern Shore Observer. She is currently a member of the Contemporary Art Society, the Dartmouth Visual Arts Society and exhibits in their group shows. Sandy is also the president of the Seacoast Trail Arts Association. She has donated her art work to many charities and was the coordinator of the “Art of Giving” project for the Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital in Sheet Harbour. She has also been teaching art workshops in the past few years.

Sandy's work is shown at Liscomb Lodge in Liscomb, The Art Sales and Rental Society in Halifax, McCourt’s Oceanside Retreat Studio in Beaver Harbour and the Marquis of Dufferin Gift Shop in Port Dufferin. Her paintings are now in private collections in many parts of Canada, the United States and Europe.
